Volunteer With PCA
PCA relies on volunteers to help us offer vital services in the local community. Would you like to become a volunteer with us? Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, and support the work we do in the community. We have a wide range of roles which suit different people and different skills and all volunteers receive service specific training and are offered ongoing training in relation to their area of work.
The shifts are between 9am and 1pm Monday to Saturday but how much time you’ll need depends on the volunteer role you are interested in. Most of our volunteers provide a few hours each week and some do one or two mornings each week.
We need help on the following teams:
Foodshare Team
Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays
We collect food from Lidl in Devizes and COOP in Pewsey and distribute it to those in need in our community to combat food waste and food poverty. The driver must get to Lidl in Devizes for around 9am and return to Pewsey to collect from COOP before we open up Foodshare at 10am until we pack up at 11am.
We also distribute to the local schools and workers if it doesn’t all go from the hall. We need two people to run Foodshare.
BURP Team
Fridays
We distribute nutritious food boxes to families and individuals who are struggling financially. This service is to help combat food poverty and help people through the cost-of-living crisis. We collect non-perishable food donations from COOP Pewsey at 9am on Friday morning and with additional fresh produce that we buy in we make up food and household supply boxes for people suffering from financial hardship. The hours are from 9am until noon.
community meals team
Thursdays and Fridays
Chefs (Thursday and Friday)
We need chefs to cook nutritious healthy meals from your own kitchen at home on Thursdays and deliver to us in Pewsey on Friday mornings. Each of our cooks must pass an online Level 2 Food Hygiene course which we will pay for. This service is to help fight malnutrition and food poverty.
Meals Dispatch (Friday)
We pack, collate and deliver meals which are cooked by our chefs the evening before, cooled and dropped off to us on Friday morning. The hours are 9am until noon.
Friendship Café and Community Market
Saturdays
Every Saturday morning we hold a friendship café for those in our community who need a bit of company. We serve donation based hot drinks and cake and we also have fresh fruit and veg for our patrons to take home afterwards. This service is to combat isolation and loneliness and helps improve mental health. We need help on the market stall, serving drinks and cake and also people to sit and chat with our service users between 9am and 1pm.
The Buddy Crew
Flexible
This is a telephone befriending service for the more isolated members of our community. Recommended phone calls once a week for a friendly, informal chat.
This can lead to encouraging meeting outdoors or joining in with other social activities depending on circumstances.
Creative Communities
Flexible Hours
We also run seasonal creative projects to encourage creativity and improve creative culture in rural areas. Please ask us about this if you are interested in getting involved.
Tech Team, Fundraising, Management and Administration
Flexible Hours
We are always on the lookout for people who can help us behind the scenes with maintaining our website and social media pages along with admin tasks, grant applications and fundraising. These roles may lead to managerial positions where decision making, and coordination of volunteers is required. If you can’t physically volunteer in our operating hours but can help remotely and you have skills and experience with any of the above, we would love to hear from you.
Community Bus
Flexible
We need help fitting out our community bus and we require drivers with a HGV licence.
If you have a HGV licence and can drive our bus, if you have skills to help us convert our bus or you can host us on your land then please get involved.
